HOW ARE BLEEDING DISORDERS TREATED?
Treatment involves the use of medications to boost the level of clotting factor in the body or intravenous infusions of concentrates containing the needed factor. These may be
given prophylactically to prevent bleeding, or after bleeding has begun to stop the bleeding.
Many patients are on a home infusion program whereby they are taught to self-administer their treatments at home resulting in prompter treatment, greater independence and lower
costs. Prompt recognition and early treatment of bleeding is key to preventing complications.
