WHAT IS VON WILLEBRAND DISEASE (VWD)?

von Willebrand disease is an inherited bleeding disorder involving a deficiency or abnormal function of a blood clotting protein called von Willebrand factor

Symptoms of VWD  include:

• Easy Bruising
• Frequent or prolonged nosebleeds
• Heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding
• Prolonged bleeding following injury, surgery, dental work or childbirth.
   

VWD is the most common inherited bleeding disorder, affecting 2% of the population or one out of every 50 people.
